Letter to Parents
Dear Parents
Term 1 is well underway in the Senior Syndicate. The term will be full of excellent learning opportunities for the children.
School times
A reminder that children should not be arriving at school prior to 8.30am unless they have a practice to attend.
Stationery
Please ensure your child still has all the essentials needed to complete their work each day. It helps if stationery is clearly named.
P.E
Initially, our focus for P.E is swimming. Children should bring their togs each day.
Homework
This is not difficult but it is essential for good outcomes that children do it every night.
– Basic Facts and Spelling completed each night in preparation for testing each Friday. Please remember that basic facts are just that – basic. They are the simple building blocks that are vital to solving more complex mathematical problems. They need to be remembered at speed to free them up to concentrate on the next stages in their learning.
– Children should be reading and discussing texts each night. Please encourage them to read something from home or the library. Let them follow their interests as research has shown that this improves their learning.
Clothing
Please ensure all clothing and possessions are clearly named.
Self-regulation
As you know, this has been a feature of our work with the children last year. We are encouraging them to be as independent as possible. This means that being organised for school should be more and more their responsibility. Please allow them to carry their own bag, put it away and get their things ready for the day. If they forget their togs or PE gear, please don’t go back for it or deliver it to school for them (except for Waterwise as we don’t want them to miss any sessions). Forgetting and missing out work are great reminders for next time and are all part of learning!
We are looking forward to another great term. Please keep a watch in the regular newsletters, on the school website and the extra notes that come home to stay in touch with what is going on at school.
Thanks for your continued support. Please feel free to contact us.
